Directions set out a timetable as to when certain tasks must be completed to allow the smooth running of the claim to trial. Both parties have to abide by the deadlines. The Court can produce its own timetable which is usually for small claims. It is possible to agree a timetable between the parties before sending in the Allocation Questionnaire. If an agreement cannot be reached then the Court will arrange a directions hearing in order to force an agreement.
The directions will usually include the following:
- When witness evidence will be exchanged
- When disclosure of documents will take place
- Expert evidence if applicable
- The trial window dates between which the case could be heard
