Noel Edmonds unhappy as planners propose to force him to flatten part of garden
Planning officers have ruled that TV personality, Noel Edmonds, must flatten a mound he created in his back garden, as it is too high. Mr Edmonds used the excavated soil from a lake he built at his property in Bitton, South Gloucestershire, to create the hill. He later planted the area with trees and flowers. He has also been asked to move storage containers which he concealed under the ground and asked to move them to the surface.
Mr Edmonds said “it was not some sort of vanity project where I got a digger out and had a mess about. I hired the best people I could, and there was no complaint from the Environment Agency or council environment officers about any aspect of the work. It is such a waste of public money and an abuse of local authority power. People are losing their jobs and facilities and this is how the council spends its money.”
He went on “the insanity is that we could turn the field into a scrapheap and the council could do nothing about it, but we bury them and they complain.”
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Council said “the enforcement notices issued in this case reflected the fact that development at the site had not been undertaken in accordance with planning permission.”
The decision comes after a failed appeal by Mr Edmonds to the Planning Inpectorate after his initial application for retrospective planning permission failed and an enforcement notice issued.
