Engineer seeks £300,000 following work accident
In November 2008, Gary Finnigan was investigating a coolant leak at Amtek Aluminium Castings when moving parts within a broken machine crushed his right hand, severing his fingers and part of his thumb.
Despite repeated reconstructive surgeries, the 47-year -old was left without the use of his hand and has since struggled to perform daily tasks.
The engineer is claiming that his employer Amtek Aluminium Castings, were negligent in their duties to protect him, offered inadequate training and never warned or prevented him from touching the machine's moving parts.
The Witham based company declined to comment due to the impending legal action but Mr Finnigan fears he may no longer be able to work as a result of its actions.
Accidents at work are highly common within labour intensive industries, such as engineering and construction. Every year, thousands of employees are awarded compensation following health and safety failings enacted by their employers.
