Disabled motorcyclist seeks £300000 compensation
In November last year, Pawan Aulakh was sent flying from his motorbike when Hannah Palmer pulled in front of him on a busy London road.
The 30-year-old endured severe injuries including problems with his arms, legs, head and back and his life has been forever changed by Ms Palmer's actions.
In June, Ms Palmer pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention at Bexleyheath Magistrates Court.
Mr Aulakh has been unable to work since the accident and stated that he needs a carer to help him with simple daily tasks and has depression due to these "life-changing injuries".
"I'm not able to use my right arm, I'm not even able to get into the bath because my skin starts to burn on my legs," said the 30-year-old. "I've had two operations so far, but nothing is improving really."
He added that he was unsure whether he would return to his job as a civil servant and has now issued a writ to the High Court seeking unlimited damages of more than £300,000 for his ordeal.
According to the writ, Ms Palmer was driving in the opposite direction to the motorcyclist when she turned right across his path. The document said it was not safe for the driver to turn right, which caused Mr Aulakh to swerve into oncoming traffic.
Ms Palmer "failed to pay proper attention to the road ahead" and "failed to slow down, brake or take sufficient action to avoid colliding with the claimant's motorcycle", the writ concluded.
