Last night I was the victim of an unprovoked attack. What should I do about it?
Being a victim of a crime is a shocking experience. It is important that you seek medical help if needed and report the assault to the police straight away. This will allow the police to investigate the crime whilst as much of the scene and witnesses memories are still fresh. It is likely that the police will give to you leaflets from the organisation Victim Support. They are there to help you and provide any support should you need it. You may be entitled to compensation too which could come from the assailant, if prosecuted, or a government body called the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority. There are rules on the eligibility for an award that include co-operating with the police to bring about a prosecution where possible. In order to find out more about eligibility, call us and we explain the process and advise upon whether you are likely to be successful with an application.
